Rain and Reign By Jonathan Berman 10/28/2016 |
When it rains I often think to say
Washing over me in some new form of waking
Not because you're dreary or forsaking
But for the smell of poetry in the leaves and the smiles in every day
When it's sunny and the shadows grab
At the trees trying to hide from the heat
I think of summer dresses and the white chess board trellises
And hide in your arms for a week
But a month goes by with an autumnal sigh
Turning long shadows into fears
And quickly with their passing
I return my stares to glancing
With strange eons we return to chase the years.
